'Celebrating Spring' with art

paradise-of-birds Maite Delteil's work titled 'Paradise of Birds'

The exhibition of a collection of paintings by mother-daughter painter duo of Maite Delteil and Maya Burman titled 'Celebrating Spring', is under way at the Taj Mahal Hotel in Delhi.

The art show is said to be the first in the series of art events planned by the hotel along with The Art Alive Gallery.

The exhibition highlights four paintings of Delteil that are part of a series titled 'In the Spring'. These artworks have been made in watercolours and oil. Eight artworks of Burman are also part of the event which will continue till May 15.

The artworks shed light on how nature blooms in spring, the response people to the changes in season and how art responds to spring.

Sunaina Anand, director, Art Alive Gallery, said, “It'll be an interesting showcase as Delteil lives in France. Most of the times and she looks at the French garden but relates to the Indian colours. The constituents of the two places where she stays has come beautifully on the canvas. Maya, on the other hand, works with people. But in her pieces, one can find Indian colours...It will be an amazing amalgamation of French and Indian elements coming together.”

“Most of Maitey's works involve nature, people and birds. She has captured nature in winter and nature at night on the canvas earlier and this is the spring series. The difference here lies in two of her works, where she has worked on a larger canvas instead of sticking to her usual miniature works. She generally works in a small area and with fine brush. So her works are of miniature quality and she does not go large in scale. But two of her works showcased for this particular show are really large and they capture entire garden scene,” Sunaina said.
