P.V. Sindhu, the volleyball player!

When ace shuttler P. V. Sindhu won the silver medal in Olympics, she became the first ever Indian woman to do so. The achievement ensured that her name is etched in golden letters in the books of history.

But apparently, that is just not enough for Indian politicians, especially Telangana deputy chief minister M. Mahmood Ali, to recognise her.

At a recent event near Charminar (Hyderabad), he made a faux pas when he introduced Sindhu, who was present along with a host of other VIPs, as a volleyball player.

Interestingly, Ali was prompting All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen (AIMIM) MLA from Yakutpura constituency Mumtaz Ahmed Khan, who was also equally clueless. Thanks to the deputy CM's effort, Khan said, "We are thankful to P. V. Sindhu, the volleyball player, who has represented Hyderabad on an international platform.”

Sindhu, of course, smiled through the whole event, for it is not the first time that the deputy CM had managed to err.

Earlier, at an event, he had said, "Sindhu is our daughter. The government will provide a better coach. We are confident that she will win gold medal." Perhaps, he did not know then that Sindhu won the silver medal, thanks to her coach Pullela Gopichand.
