TELANGANA

Despite support, all is not rosy for TRS in Telangana

KCR

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi has no opposition whatsoever in the state. The tiny group of mighty Congressmen will not be able to make even a dent in the aggressive stance the TRS is taking to win the 2019 elections. The party is also talking of early elections.

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and his party will once again come to power for this sole reason, unless of course they trip on their own self-importance and arrogance. But for safe measure, KCR did say, “We should win the 2019 elections too to continue with the development programmes, and I will work for this till the last drop of my blood." The party had organised a mother-of-all public meeting at Warangal on 27th of this month, to commemorate the party's 16th foundation day. No stone was left unturned in organising this, with just about everyone from every corner of the state attending the programme to listen to the silver-tongued KCR.

This time KCR's favourite whipping boy was the Congress. He blamed the old party for being stumbling blocks for development within the state. He wondered what the party was doing when the Andhra leaders were dominating the Telangana region and its people for such a long time.

But a dampener came in the form of the State Human Rights Commission which asked him to clarify why the government hospitals were not maintained. Apart from the government hospitals in Hyderabad, hospitals across the state were in the most pathetic condition with no doctors to treat the patients and demands of bribes going up.

But KCR is gung-ho, as he has won over all the communities by promising them bhavans in the capital city and other on-the-edge-of-closure communities, a little gift, hoping to keep them happy. While handloom weavers are practically closing shop, powerloom weavers have been given a lot of help from the government. On the other hand, KCR did say that handloom weavers will be treated like niche products and used for tourism purposes. Telangana, meanwhile, is home to some of the most traditional weaving techniques and names.

K.T. Rama Rao, the suave second in command of TRS, is bringing in the businesses. But Hyderabad, where most of the business are coming, is no more pretty or easy to live in. Bad roads and traffic snarls give the city a bad name. But the municipal minister, K.T. Rama Rao is nowhere in sight to provide solutions to the denizens of Hyderabad.

KCR said his main goal was to build a Bangaru Telangana. His favourite topic is the state's flagship programme, Mission Bhagiratha, which will bring Krishna and Godavari waters to every household.

The state has been split into several new districts, which KCR said was taking the government to the door step of every household in every village. At the ground level, things are different as district division is still not complete.

He grabbed headlines when he passed a GO stating that his government would increase the Muslim quota from the existing 4 per cent to 12 per cent. It still has to be ratified by the President, and a similar case from Tamil Nadu is in the Supreme Court.

Apart from the opposition being at its vicious best, rumours are rife the lower level activists are unhappy. Party workers are forced to follow orders that are given from the centre. Also, most of youth in the rural population are still waiting for that promised job.
