NOW WOW

Beast on wings

77-lamborghini-urus

Grab the raging Urus by its steering wheel. The world’s fastest SUV is here

Lamborghini names their cars after famous fighting bulls. The Urus, though, is named after a large wild bull. Apt, because the car resembles a wild bull, boasting bulky bodywork and has surreal speed for a sport utility vehicle.

It looks like something you would use to cross the Sinai desert—just like (Roald Dahl’s character) Uncle Oswald did with the Lagonda. If the Sinai desert seems too far away, think closer home. The Himalayas, maybe? The Urus would be the perfect companion on such a trip.

It has Lamborghini’s first front-mounted, turbo-charged 4.0 litre, V8 twin-turbo engine. The Italian carmaker calls the Urus a ‘super’ SUV, probably to do with it being the world’s fastest SUV. It can go 0-100kmph in 3.6 seconds, with its 8-speed gearbox, and has a top speed of 305kmph. S.E.X.Y!

Besides the plush leather interiors (in crimson and black, on the model we saw), there is so much electronic wizardry, you get the feeling you are inside an airplane cockpit. You have all the controls at your fingertips, and there is a drive mode selector called ‘Tamburo’ on the SUV’s center console, which lets you select up to six modes. “The Tamburo is very unique, and the fact that you can transform the car every time you tune it to the terrain you’re going to face, gives a sense of pleasure,” said Andrea Baldi, general manager, Lamborghini Asia Pacific.

Of course, for Rs 3 crore (ex-showroom), you may as well buy a flat in one of Italy’s tony neighbourhoods, but that flat is not going to deliver an adrenalin rush at 650hp of power output at 6,000rpm, and 850Nm of torque at 2,250rpm, is it?

With the Urus, you will no longer be just driving fast—you will fly.

TAILPIECE: Lamborghini makes the Urus in white. A cardinal sin for a beast like this.
