At least two Tollywood actors, including a popular actress, in Kolkata are under CBI scanner in connection with the Rose Valley chit fund scam.
According to sources in the CBI, the actress was planning to leave the country, prompting the agency to alert several airports to ensure that she does not fly out. It's believed that she planned her escape after a local television channel described her as a possible accused in the multi-crore chit fund scam. CBI is all set grill her soon. Two TMC MPs were arrested in connection with the scam last week.
When contacted by THE WEEK, the CBI refused to confirm the news saying, “We cannot reveal the details of the investigation.”
The CBI had recently found that the actress and her Singapore-based husband had close links with Rose Valley and had helped the group in hawala transactions. She had also travelled with Gautam Kundu, fallen emperor of the Rs 25,000 crore Rose Valley group, to several foreign locations.
The other actor is under CBI scanner for reportedly taking money from Kundu occasionally and acting as a courier for Rose Valley to several people.
