Bengal Imam Association strongly condemned the 'gruesome murder' of Kanhaiya Lal, a tailor of Udaipur, who supported the statement of former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma on social media.

“It's a crime against humanity as Allah has said. Killing an innocent person is anti-Islam. I don’t know from where they have come. They might bear Arabic names but they are not Muslims,” said Md Iyahiya, chairman of the Imam’s association in Bengal.

Tension has gripped several border villages in Bengal as Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has alerted all district police while being on tour in Western part of Bengal.

Ironically, the situation suddenly turned volatile after Banerjee in a party meeting in Asansole asked the people to launch a 'political jihad' against the BJP.

A 10-member-delegation led by Suvendu Adhikari, leader of the opposition, is scheduled to meet governor Jagdeep Dhankhar today, said Raj Bhavan, Kolkata.

“They are going to meet governor today at 5.30pm regarding alarmingly worrisome stance taken by Mamata Banerjee at a public meeting in Asansol yesterday,” said the statement issued by Raj Bhavan.

However, Banerjee, today condemned the incident in Rajasthan and asked people from every community to maintain peace. Yiyahiya also said that the comment of a particular person did not fall on any political party.

“Muslims should understand that a person made a comment, (it) does not bear any kind of values to our community. Our religion is unique. What these men have done in Udaipur is a dastardly act. I demand the strongest punitive action by the government,” said the chairman.
