ANDHRA PRADESH

Pursuit of happiness

The tiny nation of Bhutan is among the 'happiest' countries in the world. It is the only country in the world that has a gross national happiness (GNH) index. It is this model of development that Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Naidu has set his eyes on. Naidu wants `happiness' to be one of the guiding principles for the development of Andhra Pradesh and has told his officials to see to it that the benefits of development reaches the poorest in the state.

Naidu also wants to focus on the gross state happiness (GSH), even though AP is among the top few state in terms of gross state domestic product (GSDP). His latest vision is to see that the state has more growth in happiness.

Apart from development, he also wants the officials to check whether all the achievements are seeping into the grassroots. The aim, Naidu feels, should be to focus on peoples’ needs, because that would eventually lead to the society being happy.

He wanted the officials to ensure that each family earned a minimum of Rs. 10,000 per month and this he feels, can be ensured if there is fool-proof implementation of the 15-point agenda for the welfare of the families, 10-point agenda for welfare of society and a 17-point agenda for overall growth of the state.

Naidu, apparently, was extremely satisfied with the regularisation of 5,000 crore worth of house sites to about 30,000 families in Visakhapatnam.
