Modi attacks previous governments over schemes for Divyangs

INDIA/ Modi distributed aid kits to differently-abled people in Vadodara

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday lashed out at the previous UPA government over its performance in different spheres of life.

Modi was speaking at a programme organised at the sprawling Navlakhi Ground in Vadodara to give away aids and appliances to differently-abled people. Earlier, he inaugurated country’s second green airport in the city. Kochi is the first green airport.

Modi said that during 1992-2014, only 56 such programmes were organised by the government to give assistance to the differently-abled. He proudly claimed that in two and a half years, his government had organised 4,500 such programmes and  an estimated 5.5 lakh differently-abled people were directly benefitted.

The prime minister said that when his government took over the charge at the Centre, he found that 16,500 posts in the government for differently-abled were vacant. “I am happy to say that nearly 14,500 posts have been filled,” he said, amid cheers.

Making a mention that his government intervened to have a common sign language for the differently-abled across the country, he also expressed surprise that till now this initiative was not undertaken.

He also highlighted the success in government’s income declaration scheme and said that black money to the tune of Rs 65,000 had come to the fore. “This is without surgical strike. You can imagine what can happen if a surgical strike is done,” he said.

Modi also chose the occasion to highlight his government’s scheme of giving 5 crore LPG connections to the needy.

The prime minister, who contested Lok Sabha election from Vadodara also but preferred Varanasi, said that he felt like coming home when he came to Vadodara.

He said he had spent several years of his life in Vadodara. He also recalled Shastri Pole where he stayed. Modi had spent several years in Vadodra as an RSS pracharak.
