DMK moves court seeking CBI probe into Feb 18 trust vote

A day after media expose on the Koovathur incidents where AIADMK MLAs belonging to both the factions were offered bribes ranging from Rs 2 core to Rs 10 crore, the opposition DMK has on Tuesday knocked the doors of the court, seeking CBI probe into the trust vote.

DMK Rajya Sabha member and advocate R. Shanmuga Sundaram appeared before the first bench of Madras High Court and sought permission to file a petition, seeking CBI probe into the alleged bribing of the MLAs to vote in favour of Edappadi K. Palaniswami on the day of trust vote on February 18.

The matter was heard by the first bench comprising Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice M. Sundar and was posted for hearing on Friday. DMK, through the petition, sought an investigation by the CBI and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence or any other similar central organisation into the alleged bribery.

While mentioning the matter, Sundaram also pointed out that the DMK had already filed petitions in the court questioning the legality of the alleged detention of the MLAs inside Koovathur resort for over a week and how all the MLAs were brought to the secretariat like a herd of cattle on the day of trust vote.

It may be recalled that the DMK’s petition seeking to quash the vote of confidence on February 18 is pending before the same first bench in the Madras High Court. The bench has also heard similar petitions filed by social activist Traffic Ramaswamy and others.
