Earlier in July, the news of Professor H.C. Verma hanging his boots must have made many students of Physics, nostalgic. A revered professor of Physics at IIT, Kanpur, Prof Verma called it a day after 38 years of formal teaching, announcing it to the world with a Facebook post: “Finally locked my IITK lab and submitted the keys to office. End of 38 years of formal teaching and research.”
Verma’s Concepts of Physics has been the Bible to a whole generation of engineering aspirants, especially to get into the prestigious IITs.
Now, the Viral Fever (TVF) has come up with a tribute video to the professor. A funny take on the life of the physicist, A Day with HC Verma, starring Jitendra Kumar as Manohar Virani and Sameer Saxena as Verma, explores this nostalgia. The video has references to all the popular physics theories, with a hilarious twist. The video explores a number of things, from inertia of speech and right hand thumb rule, to Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar that explored Theory of Relativity and if Verma ever felt jealous of Prof Igor Irodov. A light take on physics and the professor’s life, the 10-minute sketch is funny but full of jargons that can be understood only if you have studied physics.
Anandeshwar Dwivedi, the director of A Day with HC Verma recalls that Verma used to be his excuse to his father for being out of the house on a given day. “I would say that I'm studying HC Verma with a topper friend of mine. This video is a tribute to him from TVF and all the science students in the country and we wish him best of luck for his post retirement life.”
Kumar, who also starred in last year’s Teacher’s Day video, A Day With R.D. Sharma, the mathematician who is as popular as Verma, says that it’s a delight to perform Virani in the sketches. “This character is stuck with these personalities which we never imagined that anyone can have fun with. But somehow, we managed every single time to have lots of fun during our script jamming sessions.”
