After taking the fashion industry by storm and making it big on the red carpet events, ace fashion designers Gauri and Nainika Karan are on a new high these days. The designer duo have collaborated with the online retailer Koovs, and are set to launch a colourful range of high-heeled party shoes this season that are stylish, flirty as well as feminine. The high-heel shoes are everything a woman would want. They are feminine, stylish and come in varied hues such as red, gold, silver and metallic.
Explaining the collection, Nainika says, "Bows, velvet, red, satin, flowers, frills at trimmings, and pearls are some things that we love. That is what we have used in the collection as well. We personally like to wear shoes that are modern. The shoes are very feminine and they stand out as a statement, but at the same time they have a timeless glamour. So, they are not over-the-top. In fact, they have that Carrey Bradshaw-feminine appeal.”
On asking what made them design shoes, the designers agreed that it was their love for the footwear. “We love high heels and we love wearing shoes. That's why we understand them really well. Koovs has a great team and they have their own in-house shoe designer in London, so we worked with them and created this. The inspiration was the Gauri-Nainika brand itself. So we wanted the shoe line to be an extension of the brand's DNA,” says Gauri.
Just like their clothes, their inspiration also draws back to the looks they created with their past collections. “We wanted to create a look that the brand stands for—glamour, femininity, eve wear. With shoes, it was pretty much the same concept that we took forward. I think it was the way we combined things—they were classic as well as timeless,” says Nainika.
“We wanted to have a metallic finish and give it a modern edge. One of the shoes come with sequins and pearls. It was inspired by one of the signature bestselling dress styles, which has bougenvilla flowers and pearls. That style of ours is extremely known and popular. So those shoes are inspired by that dress of ours,” she adds.
The heels are perfect for all women who like to wear glamourous clothes. They make you stand out. Gauri also feels that they would look good on anyone, and caters to everyone. “They have a young fresh feel in it, along with the Hollywood glamour feel. I think there's something for everyone. However, I can imagine someone like Alia Bhatt or Shraddha Kapoor wearing them.”
This is not the first time that the designers have collaborated with Koovs. Last year, they did signature cocktail dresses that also became a huge success, which made the designers come back with something afresh. "Gauri and I are very excited to do this collection with Koovs. Our last collaboration with them, for the ultimate dress collection, was a lot of fun and it became very successful,” says Nainika.
The collection of footwear will be launched on Koovs.com on November 8.
