In a major breakthrough in the Kammanahalli sexual assault case, the victim has identified the accused in an identification parade conducted by the Bengaluru police in the city on Wednesday.

The victim was groped and molested by two scooter-borne men on the eve of the New Year. The incident had sent shockwaves across the country after a CCTV footage of the assault went viral on social media.

A massive manhunt launched by the city police has resulted in the arrest of all the six accused—Aiyappa (19), Leno (20), Sudesh (20), James (20), Somashekar (24) and George (23).

The main accused Aiyappa and George, who had been stalking the victim, had hatched the plan to assault her, it is learnt.

On the night of December 31, the victim was waylaid and molested, when she was returning home after the New Year celebrations. A CCTV installed in a house in the neighbourhood captured the incident, where she is seen fighting her attackers, being thrown on the floor, before she finally manages to escape.

The investigation had hit a roadblock as the girl, who was in a state of shock, changed her residence. She had even refused to attend the identification parade twice before. However, the police finally managed to persuade her. “We assured her security and she agreed to co-operate,” said the police.
