There have been 240 ceasefire violations along the Line of Control (LoC) this year, said spokesperson for the ministry of external affairs, Gopal Baglay. These figures are much higher than the corresponding numbers for the previous year, he added, but did not provide any solid figure. In July alone, India had lost four soldiers.

Baglay said that India had sent a note verbale (third-person note) to the Pakistan High Commission regarding these ceasefire violations, which were now increasingly targeting civilians. He highlighted a recent incident where 200 students were trapped in a school because of cross-border firing.

"Cross-border terrorism is a strong focus of our engagements with other countries, by our government as well as by our leadership," he said. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had offered an 11-point suggestion on the subject at the recent G20 summit at Hamburg. "The solidarity we received from the international community after Uri is now tanslating into action,'' he said.
