Saeed's detention doesn't reflect Pakistan's sincerity: India

India has pooh poohed Pakistan's move to put Hafiz Saeed, the architect of the 26/11 terror attack, and four others under preventive detention. The move came shortly after the new regime in the United States controversially put a temporary ban on immigration from seven countries—Sudan, Syria, Somalia, Iran, Iraq Yemen and Libya. White House chief of staff Reince Priebys had said that these seven were most identifiable with dangerous terrorism taking place in their country. The US had also hinted that Pakistan could be added to the list later.

Along with the detention of the five, Pakistan also placed two organisations, Jamaat Ud Dawah and Falah e Insaniat Foundation on watch list under Pakistan's Anti Terrorism Act (1997).

New Delhi, however, believes these are cosmetic strokes and do not reflect Pakistan's sincerity in tackling terror.

"Exercises such as .. orders against Hafiz Saeed and others have been carried out by PAkistan in the past also. Only a credible crackdown on the mastermind of the Mumbai terror attack and terrorist organisations involved in cross border terrorism would be proof of Pakistan's sincerity,'' said Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Vikas Swarup.
