DIGITAL DREAMS

Launching the e-wallet app  BHIM for online transactions, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Friday, said a feature under test will show that the “power of Bhim will know no bounds”.

“You will need only your angoota chap—thumb impression. No smart phone or internet will be necessary to use Bhim then,” he said.

Bhim, as he explained, was short for Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar, and pointed out that  while the goal of Dr Ambedkar's life was to empower the poor, that is what the app would do. The Prime minister said that it was the next best electronic or digital thing from India, after the electronic voting machine. "It will be a common platform, and it is the best vision for 2017," the prime minister added.

While some may wonder how the unlettered would go cashless and digital, he was optimistic.

Taking a dig at the Congress, Modi said that, while 3 years ago, the discourse was around the losses to the nation on account of the Commonwealth Games scame, coal scam amd 2G scam, now the talk was about how much of all that has come back.

Talking about the demonetisation, Prime minister modi said it was not a small feat considering that 86 percent of the currency had gone off in one stroke. Yet, the country was moving ahead and the world is stunned to see it, he said.

He urged every Indian to do at least 5 digital transactions. By then, it will become a habit.
