Attending a rally in Gujarat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi invoked Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Patel in his stated vision to build India. "In eight years, we made honest efforts to build India of the dreams of Bapu and Sardar Patel. Bapu wanted an India that would empower the poor, dalit, victim, tribals, women; where hygiene and health become a way of life; whose economic system has indigenous solutions," he said, reported news agency ANI.

"Pucca houses to over 3 crore poor, freedom from ODF to over 10 cr families, freedom from smoke to over 9 cr poor women, electricity to over 2.5 cr poor families, tap water to over 6 cr families—this isn't just data but evidence of our commitment to safeguard dignity of poor," he said.

"When pandemic began, the poor began facing a food crisis, we opened the food grain stores for the people of the country. For a life of dignity to women, direct transfer was made to Jan Dhan bank accounts. Money was transferred to the bank accounts of farmers," PM Modi said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah will take part in public functions in different parts of the state.

On May 28, Modi will inaugurate a multispeciality hospital built by the Shree Patel Sewa Samaj at Atkot village in Jasdan tehsil of Rajkot district at 10:00am, as per the official program. The 200-bed K.D. Parwadia Multispeciality Hospital, located on Rajkot-Bhavnagar Highway, has been built at a cost of Rs 40 crore, said its managing trustee Dr Bharat Boghara.

Notably, the BJP-ruled state would be facing assembly elections by the end of this year.
