Mohanlal fans who had been awaiting the much-anticipated release of Drishyam 3 are disappointed as the makers decided to postpone its April release last week. This is the third instalment in the franchise directed and written by Jeethu Joseph.

The postponement of Drishyam 3 has come as breather for Vaazha 2 - Biopic of Billion Bros, which is set to release on April 2. Vaazha 2 was expected to have tough clash with Mohanlal starrer Drishyam 3 during the summer holidays.

Vaazha 2 is a sequel to 2024 sleeper hit Vaazha - Biopic of a Billion Boys, directed by Anand Menen. The trailer of the film shows multiple references to Alphonse Puthren's Premam. The cast includes Hashir, Ajin Joy, Vinayak and Ala Bin Siraj in key roles along with Alphonse, Biju Kuttan, Sudheesh and Vijay Babu.

Why is Drishyam 3 not releasing on April 2?

The makers of Drishyam 3 hinted that the ongoing conflict in the Middle East has affected the chances of a smooth run of the movie in the Gulf region. The GCC countries have a significant population of Malayali diaspora and any disruption in the Gulf release could affect its collection in the region.

Drishyam 3 has now been postponed to May 21, which is Mohanlal's birthday. It is produced by Antony Perumbavoor under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas. The first instalment, Drishyam, which released in December 2013, was an unexpected record-breaking blockbuster in the industry.

The sequel, Drishyam 2, was released in OTT in 2022 amid Covid-related restrictions. However, Mohanlal has announced that the 2022 movie will release in theatres for the first time on April 10.
