Ushering nature on to the ramp

Fashion designer Anupama Dayal, on the second day of Amazon India Fashion Week Autumn Winter 2017, promoted the forests of Mangar village in tropical hues by bringing out a colourful collection to the ramp. While hues of green, pink, yellow, blue and tones of red and pink along with fuchsia dominated the ramp, it was her unusual take on hand-made jewellery that caught the attention of the audiences. Accessories made out of gota in silver and gold were the other highlights of the show.

Highlighting the inspiration behind the collection, Dayal says, "I visited Mangar village one year back and I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it. Since then, I have been spending a lot of time close to it. It's an exquisite forest and is preserved exactly as it was 1000 years ago. No villager ever cuts the trees. So it is really green, the trees are really ancient and there are rare species as well. Through my collection, I like to show that one item can be worn in over 10 ways. I personally wear my scarves in different ways."

Light fabrics were used by the designer throughout her collection. "A lot of chanderi, some cottons and silks and a lot of crinkly has been used in this collection. Since crinkly does not require ironing, they can be thrown in the suitcase, pulled out and can be worn five times. That's why I have played with it," she says.
