Justice C.S. Karnan of Calcutta High Court on Thursday refused to undergo a medical examination ordered by the Supreme Court to check his mental balance.
Justice Karnan asked the medical team, which was accompanied by police, to sit at his office-cum-residence in Kolkata's Newtown, offered them tea and asked them to wait for 30 minutes. He gave them in writing his unwillingness to undergo the medical checkup which he also read out to them and to the waiting media persons.
"Sorry I can't help them because I cannot accept the Supreme Court order. The SC cannot ask for medical examination of any person without the permission of his or her family. Has that been got?" asked Justice Karnan.
Supreme court had asked West Bengal government to set up a medical board and asked the police to help the medical team.
Justice Karnan, had, in February lashed out against apex court for issuing contempt order for calling a section of judges of Madras High Court judges corrupt.
