Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Industries clarified late on Wednesday that it has not launched a JioCoin app and any such apps existing on the internet are fake.

There have been reports recently that Reliance Jio will launch its own cryptocurrency JioCoin and Mukesh Ambani's elder son Akash will be leading the project.

Following the report, over 20 apps for JioCoin have appeared on the internet and the Google Play Store.

Reliance has clarified that it has not launched any of them.

"Reliance Jio would like to inform the public and media that there are no such apps offered by the company or its affiliates/associates. Any such apps using the JioCoin name are fake and people are advised to refrain from dealing with any of them," the company said in a statement.

Some of the apps on the Google Play Store have been downloaded thousands of times and several websites too have cropped up around the JioCoin to lure gullible people.

Reliance added it took a serious note of such "fraudulent attempts by unscrupulous persons to misguide the public" in Jio's name and reserved the right to take legal recourse.
