Eight hours after a 15-year-old girl, who was living on the street, was abducted, raped and killed, Kolkata Police arrested the accused—two Ola cabbies, identified as Sankar Shaw and Guddu Singh.

The accused broke down during the questioning and admitted to kidnapping the girl on Wednesday morning and said they killed the girl after raping her and dumped her body in Park Circus canal in the city. The body of the girl was lifted from the canal by 1.15 pm.

According to the complaint lodged by her mother, the girl was abducted around 5 am from Brabourne Road. The accused took the girl in a Sedan car and drove around while taking turns to rape her.

The duo confessed that they took her near Park Circus canal and strangled her inside the car. They then threw the body in the canal.

The complaint was filed around 8 am. The cops tracked the car with the help of CCTV footage and arrested Shaw and Singh from Watgunj area of Kolkata port.

While questions on why nobody saw the body being thrown in to the canal remain, one of the police officers said they were busy with the recovery of the body and assured that all questions would be answered soon.

After the police sent a message about the incident to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s office, the CM called up City Police Commissioner Rajiv Kumar and asked him to take stern action against the accused.

The horrific incident, which shook the city, comes four days ahead of the canonisation of Mother Teresa who worked for the street children in Kolkata.
