Faced with pressure from opposition Congress and other political and social outfits in Gujarat, the state government on Wednesday agreed to a judicial probe into Naliya gang rape case and the alleged sex racket.

Four local BJP leaders are allegedly involved in the case. They were later suspended from the party.

BJP sources said that the state government is likely to announce the details of the judicial probe in a day or two.

A 24-year-old woman had filed an FIR in which she alleged that nine persons, including four BJP office bearers, had repeatedly raped her and that they had even shot the video of the crime. She had also alleged that the perpetrators were running a sex racket in which many other women were trapped.

Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said in the state assembly that the government was ready for a judicial probe. CID (Crime) is already investigating the case. All the accused have been arrested and are on police remand.

Aam Admi Party, which is trying to make foothold in Gujarat, was one of the first political parties to raise the issue. Congress too has taken up the issue and has been trying to corner the government.

Patidar leader Hardik Patel had also visited Naliya to meet the victim.
