In what has come as a shock and embarrassment to Gujarat Police, a 37-year-old constable was found dead in a pool of dried-up blood inside the Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) office in Ahmedabad early on Thursday.

He is suspected to have been killed by a detainee, who was brought to the office to be questioned in connection with a narcotics trade case. Manish Balai, who is also accused of theft, is believed to have hit Makwana on his head and face.

Police said the body of Makwana was found hours after his death. The blood around his body had dried up. Surprisingly, Balai managed to escape the high-security building after the alleged act.

The incident took place at Gaekwad Haveli, which houses the Crime Branch office in Ahmedabad’s walled city.

Police said they would come to know about the timing of the murder after the post-mortem. The deceased’s family has protested outside the Crime Branch office.
