The National Cyber Co-ordination Centre (NCCC) will come up by June, said IT and Law minister Ravi Shankar Prasad. Speaking on the sidelines of the launch of Cyber Swachhta Kendra, the minister asked secretary Aruna Sundararajan to ensure that the centre is functional by June. The NCCC has been envisaged to fully secure country’s cyber space.

The NCCC will help in effective execution of online cyber crime reporting and monitoring, setting up of forensic units, capacity building of police, promotion of research and development and awareness creation among others.

The minister made several other announcements regarding strengthening cyber security in the country. These include upgradation of STQC (Standardisation, Testing and Quality Certification), a testing and quality assurance service providing organisation under the Ministry of Electronics, and promoting cyber security start-ups.

"We need to promote start-ups in the area of cyber security. Testing fee for any start-up that comes up with a digital technology in the quest of cyber security is proposed to be reduced by 50 per cent", said Prasad.

The government also plans to notify digital forensic evidence labs that can authenticate evidence presented in the court. Currently, only a small number of forensic labs are authorised to do so. Only specific labs, notified by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, can authenticate electronic evidences, which leaves most of the law enforcement agencies with electronic evidences that are not admissible in court.
