Won't leave TMC, says Mukul Roy's son Suvrangshu

Though his father Mukul Roy has broken ties with the Trinamool Congress, Suvrangshu Roy likes to stick on with the party.

Suvrangshu is an MLA of the Trinamool Congress from Bijpur in North 24 Parganas. But on the day when his father decided to break his relation with the TMC, Suvrangshu stayed at home. Later in the day he broke his silence and said he would not leave the party. “Why should I? Is there any rule that if father leaves a party then son should also follow the suit?” asked Suvrangshu.

Suvrangshu compared his situation to that between father-son duo Mulayalam Singh Yadav and Akhilesh Yadav in Uttar Pradesh.

Many in the political circle refused to buy the argument of a rift between Mukul and Suvrangshu. “I had no idea that Suvrangshu is a rebel in Mukul Roy’s family. In fact he received good treatment within the Trinamool Congress because of his father. I think this is nothing but a ploy of father-son duo to tide through the crisis,” said a senior Trinamool Congress leader.

Trinamool Congress, on Monday, suspended Mukul Roy from the party for six years. Many senior leaders have remained tight-lipped about the sequence of events that arose in West Bengal’s political circle.

All eyes are now with Roy and speculations are rife if he would join the BJP or not.
