BJP President Amit Shah held a closed door meeting with select leaders of party unit in West Bengal on the third day of his state visit. According to sources, Shah told the leaders to chalk out the strategy for the upcoming panchayat elections in West Bengal.

A top source in the state BJP said Shah came down heavily on some of the leaders who had not done enough to hit the street against ruling Trinamool Congress. That includes many state committee members. He asked them to resign from party positions.

“Yes, he deplored the fact that we could not manage to reap dividends, even after rampant corruption by Trinamool Congress leaders in the state. He asked us to get our act together and report the progress on monthly basis,” said one of the state secretaries of the BJP.

Shah told the leaders to immediately reach the booths of the state.

“According to his advice, we should build up at least 1000 workers in per booth. In many areas, we have been able to do that,” said Biswapriya Roychowdhury, general secretary of the state party.

Meanwhile, BJP leaders lambasted Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Finance Minister Amit Mitra for using abusive words against Amit Shah.

Shah went to Rajarhat, declared by Modi government as a proposed smart city in Kolkata and talked to BJP workers. He had lunch at the house of BJP activists.

He will fly back to Delhi at 7.30pm on Thursday evening.
