CPI(M), on Friday, admitted that rise of in BJP in West Bengal was happening at the cost of their party.

Politburo member and senior leader of the party Biman Bose said, “The rise of BJP is dangerous for all of us. Our opinion is no different from the people who believe that the rise of BJP is fuelled by the vacancy created by left parties.”

Bose, while talking to reporters, said that a good number of CPI(M) members had left the party and joined BJP.

“Because many comrades left our party and joined BJP, we suffered miserably. And that resulted in the rise of BJP, which was exhibited in the Contai bypolls where BJP stood second and secured 30 percent of the total votes,” said Bose.

He, however, cannot fathom the reasons why the comrades were leaving the party.

“It might be because of they are being tortured by the state government and ruling party. Since BJP is in power at the centre, they see an opening to save themselves,” said Bose.

CPI(M)’s state unit has decided to adopt a wait-and-see approach to the recent development.

A senior state committee member said, “We are not in a hurry. We will concentrate on regrouping. Let Trinamool Congress face the BJP.”

Meanwhile, senior Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) leader Kshiti Goswami said that communists would have to take the lead to prevent ascent of BJP in West Bengal. And that would even mean extending support to Trinamool Congress in some cases.
