Gujarat ATS arrests naxal leader from Hyderabad

naxal-sudarshan-arrest ATS officials with arrested naxal leader Sudarshan

Gujarat Anti Terrorism Squad arrested a top Maoist leader from Hyderabad after a specific tip off on Saturday.

According to ATS officials, Sriramula Srinivas alias Sudarshan, aged around 60, was booked by the Surat police in 2010 for allegedly inciting tribals and religious minorities. This was being done in parts of Maharashtra and South Gujarat for waging a war against the government, the officials said.

Sudarshan was brought to Gujarat on Sunday.

The ATS said that Srinivas also served as an underground operative of CPI-Maoist, banned naxalite outfit, to build an armed cadre in South Gujarat.

Sudarshan is a native of Nalgonda and is facing various charges under IPC, including waging war against the government, sedition and promoting enmity among different communities.

He was arrested by Andhra Pradesh Police in 2007 for his alleged involvement in a failed attempt in 2003 to assassinate the then chief minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.

Sudarshan was released in 2011 in exchange of an abducted district collector from Odisha.

He is also alleged to have been extorting money for the Maoist activities.
