A sessions court in Mehsana, North Gujarat, on Friday granted conditional bail to independent MLA from Vadgam Jignesh Mevani and nine others in connection with a case over a rally taken out in 2017 without permission. The 'azaadi kooch' was taken out in 2017 to commemorate one year of the Una flogging case.

Mevani and others had challenged the decision of a local court in Mehsana that had sentenced them to three months in prison.

While granting conditional bail, the court asked Mevani not to leave Gujarat without its permission. He has also been asked to deposit his passport.

Among those who have been granted bail with similar conditions include NCP leader Reshma Patel and co-convenor of Rashtriya Dalit Adhikar Manch, Subodh Parmar.
