The Congress is optimistic about the fourth phase of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls to be held on Thursday. As many as 53 constituencies spread across 12 districts will go to polls in this phase.
Congress is contesting 25 seats, including its prestigious Raibareili. The party is optimistic to do well in Bundelkhand region where it is fighting in 9 out of 19 seats. Congress has four sitting MLAs from the region.
The fourth phase will witness an interesting electoral battle as candidates from both Congress and the Samajwadi Party, despite being in an alliance, are pitted against each other. Four seats will see a direct fight between these two parties. In fact, these four seats were a bone of contention when the two parties entered into an alliance.
In Sarani, SP’s Davendra Pratap Singh is contesting against Congress’ Ashok Singh, while in Unchahaar assembly seat, SP minister Manoj Pandey is taking on Congress’ Ajay Pal. Congress’ Braj Lal and SP’s Ramesh Khatik will lock horns in Mehrauni assembly segment. In Bindki seat in Fatehpur district, SP’s Rameshwer Dayal is contesting against Congress’ Abhimanu Singh.
