Accepting his party's defeat in the assembly elections, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav met Governor Ram Naik on Saturday and submitted his resignation. Accepting the resignation, the governor urged Akhilesh to work as an acting chief minister, till his successor assumes the power.
Earlier, he addressed a press conference where hoped that the new government would do better work than his government. “Though we have done a lot of work, people of the state did not like that,” he said.
On a lighter note, the chief minister said: "It's possible people didn't like the great Expressway we built and they voted for a bullet train."
On the issues of farmers, he said that his government had waived off the loans of farmers and it remains to be seen what the new government does in this regard, and added that he would wait for first cabinet decision of the present government.
