SURROGACY

Abu Azmi mocks Karan Johar for opting surrogacy

“Could you not find a girl to get married?” Azmi asks Johar

In what could be a new controversy, Samajwadi Party leader Abu Azmi on Monday accused Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar of resorting to 'drama' of surrogacy to father twins—a girl and a boy. Mocking the filmmaker's decision, in a statement to media, Azmi told Johar: “Karan Johar ji, kya koi ladki nahi mil rahi thi aapko shaadi karna ke liye... Aur agar nahi, toh bahut saare gareeb pade hai, jaake do-chaar ko aap adopt kar lete. Lekin aap jo hai, iss tarah se kar rahe hai, lagta hai gareebo ka majak ho raha hai. (Could you not find a girl to get married? If not, there are so many poor people. You could have adopted two or four. But what you did looks like you are mocking the poor.)”

Itne bade ho gaye, shaadi nahin kar sakte? Koi beemari hai toh adopt kar lo. Surrogacy ka kya naatak hai ye? (You are such a grown up; couldn't you get married? If you have any health condition, then adopt kids. What is this drama over surrogacy?),” Azmi added.

Johar, on Sunday, confirmed the birth of the twins on Twitter. In a statement, the 44-year-old filmmaker said: “I am ecstatic to share with you all the two most wonderful additions to my life, my children and lifelines; Roohi and Yash. I feel enormously blessed to be a parent to these pieces of my heart who were welcomed into this world with the help of the marvels of medical science.”

“This was an emotional yet well thought out decision which I have taken after considering all the responsibilities and duties that come with being a parent. In order to arrive at this decision. I have prepared myself mentally, physically, emotionally and logistically to ensure that my children get all the unconditional love, care and attention from me and mine,” he added.

“I am eternally grateful to the surrogate who has fulfilled my lifelong dream and provided a warm, loving and nurturing environment to my children before bringing them into this world. She will always remain in my prayers,” he said in the statement.

Johar is the latest to join the league of Bollywood celebrities who have become parents through surrogacy. Previously, Shah Rukh Khan, Tusshar Kapoor and Aamir Khan have become parents through the procedure.
