Durex jeans is not what it seemed to be

For the last two days, condom manufacturer Durex had kept Indians on the edge with a baffling announcement—they were launching denim jeans. In a teaser video, brand ambassador Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh, kept us guessing as he drew the curtains of a trial room, made some oohs and aahs, and finally said: “Guys, this fits really well.” The teaser said Durex is launching jeans and Ranveer gets to wear the first one. It set social media abuzz trying to figure if it was a jeans made of latex, or a denim condom. Now, after #DurexJeans went viral, and even crashed the company's India website, it turns out all of it was a publicity stunt.

No, they are not launching denims, anyway not ones you can pull up your legs! The 'jeans' are just another variant of condoms, which the brand claims to be ultra slim. On Friday, Durex tweeted a video on their Twitter handle and said: #DurexJeans is finally here! And Ranveer looks awesome in it.

The video shows Ranveer in a pair of jeans and a full-sleeve tee, trying to fix all those spots in his apartment—the table, kitchen top, bath tub— that could be creaky, you know when. And then, the door bell rings. He opens to find a young woman (probably the one he was expecting), crouched on the floor, trying to pick up all the condoms she had dropped. And then, slides one of those 'jeans' condoms into her back pocket. This pocket pack of two condoms 'perfectly fit' into any jeans pocket, so that you always stay 'prepared', the video concludes.

Ranveer grabbed eyeballs in 2014 with a Durex condom television commercial 'Do the Rex'. Besides a few steamy scenes, the bold advert featured the actor, dressed in a purple suit and red shades, rapping and dancing. The actor did what no Bollywood actor had ever done before—endorse a condom, and also sing about great sex. 

Earlier this week, THE WEEK, had reported that condom manufacturer Durex was launching denim jeans, after the company tweeted the teaser video. Ranveer, too, tweeted the video and Twitter had a field day wondering what Durex was up to.
