9 Indians among 10 killed in Maldives fire

A fire that broke out in a garage in the Maldivian capital Male has claimed ten lives. According to officials, the fire broke out early on Thursday. The dead include nine Indians and one Bangladeshi national.

The National Disaster Management Authority of Maldives tweeted, “NDMA has established an evacuation centre in Maafannu Stadium for those displaced and affected by the fire in Male. Arrangements are being made to provide relief assistance and support.”

The group of islands is an upmarket tourist destination. The capital city of Male is one of the world's most densely populated cities. The fire originated on the ground floor-- a garage and the bodies were found on the first floor.
