Jose Antonio Rodriguez, the goalkeeper for Mexican football club CD Guadalajara, may have never dreamt of scoring a goal from his own box to the other end of the pitch. But that's exactly what he did during the last minutes of a Liga MX match against CD Veracruz.
The Guadalajara team, commonly known as Chivas, was leading 2-1 in stoppage time when Tono Rodriguez picked up the ball, ran to the edge of his box and launched it towards the Veracruz goalpost, where their keeper went forward, leaving the goal open. Chivas finished the match 3-1.
It was the 27-year-old goalkeeper's first-ever goal. An elated Rodriguez and his teammates are seen joyfully celebrating his first career goal.
“I never imagined scoring a goal, not even in training,” Rodriguez said after the match. “I didn't know how to react. I don't know what it is to score a goal. I had never scored a goal in my life!” Rodriguez was promoted to the Chivas first-team in 2012.
Chivas are currently placed 10 in the Liga MX with 25 points.
