Gigabit Internet comes to India

Atria Convergence Technologies (ACT) has brought the fastest broadband Internet service -- at 1 GBPS, that is 1000 MBPS—to India.

To start with, the service is being rolled out in Hyderabad. In a country where the average internet speed is 2.5 Mbps, and top speed to the home is around 100 MBPS, this ten-fold jump, is a significant jump in home and office connectivity. Launched last week, the 1 GBPS service is currently available in the twin cities for a subscription of Rs 5999 per month, with a 1TB limit under fair usage policy ( after that, the speed drops).

It will soon be extended to the 10 other cities where ACT operates—Bangalore, Chennai, Coimbatore, Delhi, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Nellore, Tirupati, Guntur and Eluru.

Said Bala Malladi, the CEO of ACT Fibernet: “Hyderabad is India’s first Giga city.The entire network that is required to enable access to faster internet connectivity has been upgraded. The last mile connectivity of 60-70 meters has been replaced with high-end fiber which gives the gigabit speed.”

Added Telangana state's Minister for IT, Taraka Rama Rao: “I am pleased to witness the historic launch of 1 GBPS broadband internet service for an entire city in the country. It is my vision to connect 10 million households in Telangana through high speed internet and I am sure this product from ACT Fibernet will further help fulfill my vision of making Telangana a tech and digitally advanced hub.”

ACT is the largest internet service provider in twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad and number 3 nationwide. In order to optimally harness a 1 GBPS connection, customers are advised to make sure that the type of copper cable used to connect the Internet cable to the PC is of type CAT6 (4 pair). Ideally, the PC should have an Intel Core i7 processor 2.5Ghz, and an 8GB RAM, with a 64-bit Operating system and 1 GBPS LAN/Ethernet port.
