Midwest and Northeast regions in US brace for coldest winter ever

As brutally cold air is unleashed by the polar vortex from the Midwest to the Northeast in US, Americans are bracing for the coldest winters ever with temperatures that can reach up to -25 as of today and rest of the week.

A large mass of Arctic air is moving into the region and bringing well below-normal temperatures. Areas stretching from Dakotas to Maine; Alabama, Georgia, New York Chicago, Pennsylvania, Vermon are expected to be affected by extreme temperatures.

In fact the weather is expected to be so bad that even postal services might come to a hold as snow showers from Ohio Valley to the mid-Atlantic and New England through Wednesday. Visibility is expected to be dramatically affected and roads to be coated with snow with travel being hazardous.

In many cities like Pittsburgh and Buffalo, temperatures will hit single digits and even sub zero.

In addition to the cold weather, winds will make it seem like the weather is much colder than actual temperatures. Cities like New York, Harrisburg, Burlington, Vermont; and Providence are likely to be worst hit. With a threat for hypothermia and frostbite being high, residents have been asked to prepared with enough firewood and propane to keep homes warm, while motorists have been asked to venture with caution. The homeless have been encouraged to stay in shelters.

The bitter weather has already affected travel with more than 2700 flights in the affected airports being cancelled. Huge vehicles and garbage trucks have been stalling as their fuel is solidifying.
