Let's admit it: PDF is the document format we all love to hate. There are many competitors; but Adobe's Acrobat tool is the de facto industry standard and for most us, it is a rare day when we don't need to open or manipulate a PDF attachment in our mail.
Yes, the Acrobat reader is a free download from Adobe—but we all know how limiting it can be. We can read a PDF that we receive—and that's it. Even the slightest tweaking is not possible.
Which is why I am thrilled to be trying out PDF Converter, a free tool from Canada that converts to and from PDFs to MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint, You can edit PDFs in Microsoft Word on your own desktop, offline and then convert it back—and really this is the best way to edit it, delete, rearrange, rotate, resize or whatever. I can tell you from personal experience, editing in native Acrobat is tiresome.
With PDF Converter, you can also convert Image formats and scanned PDF documents into editable Word doc format.
But for me, the most useful feature was the PDF creator, not easy to do cleanly without a paid licence to Acrobat. I uploaded a Word file, entered my email ID and the PDF version reached my mailbox in about two minutes. You can access all these features at http://www.pdfconverter.com/convert-to-pdf-online-free/
There is a paid version of PDF Converter Elite 4 with a lot more features including conversions from and to Publisher, AutoCAD, OpenOffice, HTML, image file.... some 10 formats in all, starting at $ 99.95 (Rs 7000) a licence that enterprises will find worth their while. But for most of us the free version will serve nicely!
