As many as 31 people suffered injuries in the first incident, including 10 police personnel. Fresh violence erupted on Sunday, when Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) cadres took out a rally defying orders. Eight police personnel suffered injuries in the violence on Sunday. However, government internet and intranet-based services are exempted. The notification warned of stern action against the violators.
Cuttack Police Commissioner S. Dev Datta Singh said the second clashes could have occurred due to the spread of rumours on social media about the health condition of one of the injured persons in the clash.
