Days after the Indian government protested against the Khalistan attack on Indian High Commission in the UK, the Centre retaliated by downgrading the security provided to the UK High Commission in Delhi.
Barricades that were erected outside the British High Commission at Shantipath in the Chanakyapuri diplomatic enclave have been removed, while those in front of British high commissioner Alex Ellis’ residence at Rajaji Marg have also disappeared, reported ANI.
The British High Commission has refused to react to the same, stating that it "does not comment on security matters." There have, however, been no reports of any reduction in security personnel posted at the mission.
This comes as India strongly protested against the lack of security at the Indian High Commission when Khalistani protestors stormed the building and tried to pull down the Indian flag. The Ministry of External Affairs had summoned the senior-most UK diplomat in New Delhi to seek an explanation as to why there was a "complete absence of British security that allowed these elements to enter the mission premises."
Bike recovered
The Punjab Police have recovered the two-wheeler allegedly used by Waris Punjab De chief and radical preacher Amritpal Singh to flee the police. The bike was found abandoned in Darapur village, around 60 km from Nanagal Ambian, the police said. However, Amritpal continues to remain on the run.
Earlier, a CCTV visual had gone viral on social media showing Amritpal riding pillion on the Bajaj Platina bike wearing a pink turban and black spectacles. Another footage from the Jalandhar toll plaza showed him escaping in the SUV.
There were also reports that Amritpal, on the day of the crackdown, spent at least 45 minutes in the Nangal Ambian gurudwara in Jalandhar. The preacher at the Gurudwara told The Indian Express that they were unaware of the police search for him. Amritpal was reportedly accompanied by four men and they asked for some clothes. The fugitive also used the priest's phone and returned it after a while when they were ready to leave the gurudwara.
