Centre-back Lisandro Martínez is solid for Manchester United when he is fit. The only problem is, he is often not! The 28-year-old has a lot to offer if he can steer clear of injuries. As per a report, that is United's only demand to offer the World Cup winner a new contract.

"Licha" Martínez's contract will run out in six months, but there is an extension option that Manchester United are most likely to trigger. In the meantime, they will assess how injury-prone the former Ajax man is. It is almost certain that he will get an opportunity to extend his stay at Old Trafford unless his remaining period with the club sees him suffering further spells on the sidelines.

Manchester United are open to handing a considerable pay hike and other benefits to a fit Martínez, reports said. The development comes amidst reports of the club thinking about adding him to their "For Sale" list for January.

A similar report had surfaced when Martínez suffered yet another injury blow during his FIFA World Cup title defence in North America. Articles in July had said that the defender would be evaluated by the medical team at Old Trafford upon his return for pre-season, with his future at the club remaining uncertain. If United's medical board finds that there are lingering issues with the 28-year-old, it could well be the end of the road for the World Cup winner at Old Trafford, reports claimed. However, Martínez was ultimately retained in the squad, and he has started the season strongly for the Red Devils.

Since his arrival from Ajax in 2022, Martínez has played 112 games across competitions for Manchester United, winning an English FA Cup and a League Cup. He is reportedly earning £120,000 per week and is estimated to make around £7.8 million annually, including bonuses.

"Martínez suffered a serious ACL tear against Crystal Palace in February 2025 which sidelined him for roughly eight months before he returned to action last season. He will be handed improved terms and a longer extension to his deal if he can stay fit and keep his place in the starting eleven in the coming months," Football Insider said in a report.

After three rounds, Michael Carrick's Manchester United are eleventh in the Premier League with one win, one defeat, and one draw.
