One policeman and two CRPF men were killed when militants fired at a Naka (checkpoint) party at Kreeri Pattan in Baramulla on Monday.

The attack by militants was repulsed by the police and CRPF. After a brief exchange of fire, the militants fled from the spot. The security personnel quickly cordoned off the area and began searching for the militants.

The slain policeman was identified as Muzaffar Ahmed. He was a Special Police Officer (SPO). Two CRPF men were shifted to hospital, but died of injuries.

This is the second attack on a Naka party by militants after the Nowgam attack in which two policemen were killed on August 14.

Attacking Naka parties seems to be the new tactic of militants.

On July 1, militants attacked a joint Naka party of police and CRPF at Arampora, Sopore, in Baramulla in which one CRPF man and a civilian were killed.

The killing of the civilian evoked widespread condemnation after his family alleged he was shot dead by CRPF who dragged him out of his car.
