Sarfaraz Khan has been an enigma in Indian cricket. The Mumbai batter showed glimpses of his caliber as a teenage prodigy for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Indian Premier League. However, he was soon plagued with allegations of indiscipline and lack of fitness - something that affected his growth as a cricketer.
However, over the years, Sarfaraz has arguably been the best Indian batter in First-class cricket, piling on runs for fun. Even when he got opportunities for India, Sarfaraz has impressed with vital contributions, only to be unfairly stripped of a longer rope. While his skillset is largely for red-ball cricket, Sarfaraz showed during the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy that white-ball is down his street as well.

In recent seasons, Sarfaraz has had very brief outings in the IPL but that could change from 2026. He was one of CSK's last signings at the IPL 2026 Auction and the 28-year-old couldn't hide his joy on finding an IPL contract, that too with arguably the best franchise in the tournament's history.
Sarfaraz took to social media with some emotionally charged posts and also put up a gratitude video that was posted by CSK's official handle on X. 'Dear CSK, thank you so much for giving me this opportunity,' said Sarfaraz in the video. Like every cricketer that heads to CSK, Sarfaraz's biggest dream is the obvious - to meet and spend time with the great man MS Dhoni.
"I am very lucky that I am going to play with Mahi Bhai (MS Dhoni) and I hope I will learn a lot from him. I can't wait to join you all soon. Thank you so much for giving me a new life. Thank you!"
This will be Sarfaraz's fourth IPL franchise, having spent time with Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings after his RCB stint.
