Former Congress spokesperson Sanjay Jha, who was suspended in July for 'anti-party activities', is continuing to needle the grand old party.

Jha, who had been a familiar face on TV news debates in recent years, has been vocal about his demand for "internal democracy” in the party. In fact, in his Twitter bio, Sanjay Jha has written, "Sacked & Suspended by Congress for wanting internal democracy."

On Monday, Jha tweeted around 100 Congress leaders had written to party chief Sonia Gandhi, seeking a change in the leadership and internal polls. "It is estimated that around 100 Congress leaders (including MP's) , distressed at the state of affairs within the party, have written a letter to Mrs Sonia Gandhi, Congress President, asking for change in political leadership and transparent elections in CWC," Jha tweeted.

In recent months, Jha has been outspoken in demanding reform in the party. Soon after his suspension from the party in July, Jha had declared his loyalty was to the "Congress ideology" and "not to any individual or family".

In June, Jha had alleged the Congress had become "fossilised, status quoist and reluctant to change”. He even criticised the party leadership for not consulting spokespersons when it decided to ban their participation in TV news debates. Sanjay Jha had been vocal in his support for Sachin Pilot during the recent political crisis in Rajasthan. He demanded the young leader be made chief minister in place of incumbent Ashok Gehlot.

Yasmin Kidwai, a Delhi municipal councillor of the Congress, asked Sanjay Jha why he tweeted about the letter, adding, "Everyone in party knows why share it on a public platform?". To this, Sanjay Jha, replied, "Because it should be our responsibility."

Other Congress leaders, too, have called for internal polls to address the perceived drift in the party. Three-time MP Shashi Tharoor has repeatedly claimed Rahul Gandhi had the ability to lead the party, but if he was not willing, a new leader should be elected.
