The ICSE board on Thursday postponed class 10 and 12 examinations due to the novel coronavirus threat, officials said.

The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) Chief Executive Gerry Arathoon said the exams have been postponed till March 31.

On Wednesday, he had said the exams will be conducted as per the schedule after the CBSE announced it has postponed exams till March 31.

Ministry of Human Resource and Development on Wednesday directed the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and all educational institutions in the country to postpone the ongoing examinations of classes 10 and 12 till 31 March in view of the coronavirus outbreak. The HRD ministry has also asked all schools, universities, and other institutes to cancel all scheduled exams and entrance exams till March 31.

Following the directive, the CBSE postponed its class 10 and 12 examinations till March 31. The re-scheduled examination dates will be announced later.

The evaluation work of the examination papers conducted by CBSE, NIOS, University Exams will be rescheduled after 31 March. New dates regarding evaluation will be be announced after 31 March.

"While maintenance of academic calendar and exam schedule is important, equally important is safety and security of students who are appearing in various examinations as also of their teachers and parents," HRD secretary Amit Khare said in an official communication.

"All the ongoing examinations, including CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) board exams, be postponed till March 31 and rescheduled thereafter," he added.

CBSE had earlier directed examination centres to ensure sitting arrangement with adequate distance between students to contain the coronavirus spread.
