After Pragya Singh Thakur, another BJP member of Parliament (MP) from Madhya Pradesh has landed in a controversy after a video of him using derogatory words against the woman collector of Ashok Nagar district on Monday went viral.

Guna MP K.P. Yadav said in the video in Hindi that the collector would “reach village to village to kiss the feet of the former MP”, in an obvious reference to ex-Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia. Scindia had been the former MP of Guna, who lost to Yadav in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

Yadav was upset because the collector did not arrive to personally receive a memorandum from him after he staged a demonstration before the Ashok Nagar collectorate on the issue of compensation for crops damaged due to heavy rainfall.

The incident comes within hours of Bhopal MP Pragya Singh Thakur's controversial statement on “untimely” deaths of prominent BJP leaders on Monday. Pragya had said that the opposition was using “deadly powers” to harm the BJP.

The Madhya Pradesh unit of the BJP has taken a stern view of the controversy caused by Yadav's comments. Chief spokesperson of the party Deepak Vijayvargiya told THE WEEK that the BJP has a very clear stand and expects all its workers and people’s representatives to use restrained and respectful language.

Meanwhile, Ashok Nagar District Collector Dr Manju Sharma has said that in the permission letter for the demonstration led by Yadav, it was mentioned that the memorandum (addressed to the governor of Madhya Pradesh) would be received by the local tehsildar.

“I was busy with meetings and when the MP refused to give memorandum to tehsildar or even SDM, the additional district magistrate (ADM) received it, despite the permission letter mentioning tehsildar. Later, I and the superintendent of police met the MP in my office and there is nothing more to it. I have only heard about the video and its content. We do our official work with seriousness and sincerity,” the collector told THE WEEK.

K.P. Yadav, once considered a very close confidant of Jyotiraditya Scindia, fell out with him over an Assembly ticket from Mungaoli constituency in Ashok Nagar. Yadav then joined the BJP, contested against Scindia from Guna constituency in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls and defeated the latter by about 1.25 lakh votes. Since then, Yadav has been on a public offensive against Scindia on several occasions, never missing an opportunity to criticise him.
