Shouldering the responsibility of making the BJP victorious in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, party president Amit Shah on Saturday did his first roadshow in Gandhinagar constituency.
Shah is on a two-day visit of Gujarat. In the morning, he travelled in an open vehicle from Vanjhar village of Sarkhej, and his cavalcade—comprising bikes and cars—passed from Sarkhej, Makarba, Vejalpur, Jivraj Park, Shyamal Cross Roads, Mansi Tower and Vastrapur before ending at Haveli in Vastrapur. These areas are located in the western part of Ahmedabad.
The otherwise unclean road between Makarba and Shrinandnagar was spruced up and DDT sprayed all over from early morning ahead of Shah's visit.
In the evening, Shah will take out a roadshow in the Sabarmati area, located in the northeastern part of Ahmedabad. He is to also hold meetings with senior party leaders later in the day.
Flanked by state BJP president Jitu Vaghani and Vejalpur MLA Kishor Chauhan, Shah continuously waved to onlookers on either side of the road and threw garlands and flowers on them.
The people at the roadshow on Saturday was, of course, no match to the crowds that had gathered a week ago when Shah had filed the nomination papers. This perhaps had to do with the scorching heat in the city. Ahmedabad reported a temperature of over 40 degrees Celsius.
The autorickshaws in the cavalcade played the Chowkidar song and gave messages of making Narendra Modi prime minister for the second time.

Shah replaces party stalwart L.K. Advani, a six-time MP from Gandhinagar. In 2014, Advani had won with a margin over 4.50 lakh votes. The constituency, which has seven assembly segments in it, has an electorate of over 15 lakh.
While Shah began his roadshow from Sarkhej, the largest adjoining Muslim ghetto of Juhapura was missed out for strange reasons. While the Makarba-Shrinandnagar Road was taken, the parallel Juhapura main road was missed out.
BJP spokesman Bharat Pandya said the leaders took the internal roads. He pointed out that Sarkhej also has a Muslim population.
In the 26 Lok Sabha seats of Gujarat, the Congress has fielded one Muslim candidate (Bharuch constituency) and the BJP has fielded none.
