The body of an unidentified woman was found in a bag in suburban Malad Monday afternoon, police said. It was later identified to be the body of a 20-year-old student-cum-aspiring model, Mansi Dixit.

Bangur Nagar Police arrested a student named Muzammil Sayyed, who is accused of having carried out the murder. The body was found stuffed in a travelling bag left at Mindspace, a commercial hub, in Malad (West).

Police sent the body for autopsy. After further investigation, it was revealed that the incident took place when Mansi visited Sayyed at his apartment.

Sayyed allegedly hit Mansi with a blunt object after an argument and then strangled her to death. He then stuffed her body in a suitcase and dumped the bag underneath some bushes near Mindspace area. The police noticed that a rope was wrapped around her neck, which they suspected was used to strangulate her.

The police traced the rickshaw that the accused had hired by the means of CCTV footage and apprehended him, after which he confessed to the crime. The duo is said to have met on social media.

According to reports, an FIR was lodged under sections of the Indian Penal Code pertaining to murder.
