After the huge box office success of his last film The Kashmir Files, director Vivek Agnihotri is all set to work on his next—The Delhi Files. Agnihotri took to Twitter on Friday to share the news.

"I thank all the people who owned #TheKashmirFiles. For last four years, we worked very hard with utmost honesty & sincerity. I may have spammed your TL but it's important to make people aware of the GENOCIDE & injustice done to Kashmiri Hindus. It's time for me to work on a new film (sic)," Agnihotri tweeted. In a second tweet, he wrote “#DelhiFiles”. The filmmaker, however, has not yet revealed the plot of film. While there are speculations the movie is based on the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, some say it is on the 2020 Delhi riots.

Actor Anupam Kher tweeted in support of the new film.

The Kashmir Files, which released countrywide on March 11, depicted the exodus of the Kashmiri Pandits from the Kashmir Valley in the 1990s. The film, which courted controversy over the representation of facts, had received a massive push from the Centre with even PM Modi praising the film. Many states like Uttar Pradesh, Tripura, Bihar, Goa, Haryana and Uttarakhand have made the movie tax free. Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday termed The Kashmir Files “a bold representation of truth”.

"I wanted to make a sensitive film that has universal resonance... The whole world loves this film, the sensibilities of this film are international. I wanted to show the truth to the whole world," Agnihotri had said at a press conference. The movie featured Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi, Darshan Kumaar, and others.

Agnihotri's tweet also triggered political reactions. BJP's Majinder Singh Sirsa said welcomed Agnihotri's next film and that he had requested the director to work on a film on the atrocities of 1984 Sikh genocide. “I hv requested him personally to show atrocities of 1984 Sikh Genocide when Gandhi Family led & justified this pogrom of mass killing of innocent Sikhs. And like Kashmiri Pandits, Sikhs still carry wounds of 1984 genocide (sic), he tweeted.”

BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla took a dig at the Congress and AAP. He tweeted: “Even before subject of #TheDelhiFiles has been unveiled entire Cong-PAAP ecosystem is saying “Delhi files is communal project”.

He further wrote: “Are bhai!Instigating anti Hindu violence in name of CAA is secular? Tahir Hussain is secular? 1984 Sikh genocide is secular?”
