Eman Ahmed, world's heaviest woman, passed away on Monday morning at Abu Dhabi's Burjeel hospital, barely two weeks after she celebrated her 37th birthday.

According to a statement released by Burjeel hospital, Eman breathed her last at 4:35am due to complications from the underlying co-morbid conditions including heart diseases and kidney dysfunction.

Egyptial national Eman who used to weigh 500 kg was brought to Mumbai in a cargo freight using money from a massive crowdfunding initiative and funds of Mumbai's Saifee Hospital. She underwent bariatric surgery at Saifee hospital on March 7, following which her weight had dropped to 300 kg.

Eman had left Saifee hospital on May 4 for Abu Dhabi for further treatment. Her sister Shaimaa, had decided to approach doctors at Burjeel hospital following a spat with bariatric surgeon Dr Muffazal Lakdawala and his team at Saifee hospital. Since then, Eman was being treated in a VIP room of the Abu Dhabi hospital by a team of 20 doctors, including a psychiatrist. Other than suffering from morbid obesity, doctors said  the right side of her body was left paralysed following a stroke three years ago. Other than that, she was also left mute due to the stroke attack. Eman also suffered from cardiac issues, severe depression, acute kidney failure, a urinary tract infection, and hypothyroidism.

However, in a recent interview with this correspondent Dr Yassin El Shahat, Chief Medical Officer of Burjeel hospital had said, “Her kidney functions are now normal following extensive treatment and her urinary tract infection had also subsided. With the help of our endocrinologist, her thyroid levels are also normal and with the help of regular counselling and anti depressants, her mood had drastically improved.”

Eman was slated to undergo plastic surgery in October, to which doctors at Burjeel hospital had said she was eagerly looking forward to.
